Soundararajan has decided not to fill two vacant MLC seats under the Governor quota

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has decided not to fill two vacant MLC seats under the Governor quota until the Telangana High Court rules on writ petitions filed by BRS leaders Dasoju Sravan Kumar and K Satyanarayana, whose MLC nominations were rejected by her last year, according to an announcement made on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Raj Bhavan stated that no further actions will be made to replace the vacant MLC seats under the Governor Quota in view of the writ petitions filed by Dasoju Sravan Kumar and Satyanarayana challenging the denial of their MLC nominations, as well as the High Court’s remark. The Governor has decided not to act on the state government’s request to fill the empty two MLC seats under the Governor’s quota until the writ petitions are decided by the High Court, according to the statement.

The former BRS government nominated Sravan Kumar and Satyanarayana for the Legislative Council, however the Governor rejected their nominations. They later contested the Governor’s decision. During the previous session, the petitioners highlighted their concern that the new Congress government will fill the seats. To this, Justices Alok Aradhe and S. Nanda commented that it was a gentleman’s agreement and that the state would not act until the next hearing date (January 24).
